Aloha! I am Julius Gutierrez owner of Hu Honua Aquaponics. Born in Lima, Peru and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii since age of 10. I have grown to love these islands and call them my home, so much so that I decided to finish my education at UH of Hawaii at Manoa with a BS in Plant Biotechnology. There I assisted in R&D of aquaponics under the mentor-ship of Dr. Harry Ako, and worked with local farmers on the island of Oahu. Since graduation I have built and taught home-owners about aquaponic systems. As well as started two small scale farms, one in Kailua kona,HI and another one in Itapoa, Brasil. My current goals are to educate the public in the benefits of aquaponic farming and help usher in a new era of food production in Hawaii. I foresee the time and resource savings offered by aquaponics as a key element in providing organic fresh food in our current high paced society. Ultimately I would like to see every residence with its own garden/aquaponic system to provide the highest quality food to themselves and the community.
